ANNA VALENTINE LTD

Sustainability Policy

Anna Valentine is a London based British couturier, designing, and making clothes for individual private clients. Our nature has always been to make high quality clothing that is beautiful yet timeless and can be worn for many years. We feel that clothes should not be discarded each season and offer an update, restyle or recycling service.

We naturally aim to be as circular as possible. Our processes therefore have a lower impact in terms of environmental pollution and a reduction in waste and resources used in complete contrast with fast fashion.

We are always looking at ways to reduce our impact on the environment

and have already implemented the following:

We have reduced our Ready to Wear collection to work more on a Made to Order basis to minimise excess stock.

We generally order fabric as we need it which keeps remnants to a minimum, and use stock fabrics as priority. All unusable scraps of fabric are collected and recycled.

Paper, ink cartridges, coffee pods, water filter cartridges, small electronics and lightbulbs are also recycled, packaging is reused, and our general waste is further sorted and used as ‘Energy from Waste’ to generate electricity and power homes in the UK. Zero to landfill.

Dead stock is recycled or donated to charity.

We use mainly natural fibres such as silk, cotton, and cashmere.

We have upgraded our washing machine and tumble drier to a higher eco rating, and use plant based detergents in refill bottles.

We have donated old sewing machines, fuse press, excess fabrics and relevant books/magazines to local universities.
We often welcome students to join our team for work placements and endeavour to pass on as many new skills and experiences as possible.

We use mainly natural fibres such as silk, cotton, and cashmere.

Our packaging consists of recyclable cardboard boxes, acid free tissue paper and reusable natural calico bags, while our hangers are made from ethically sources FSC approved natural wood.

Where possible we support local, British and small businesses or individual artisans.

Over 90% of our fabric embellishment is created in the UK. (88% inhouse, 2.5% UK outsource, 9% India)

All bespoke clothing is made in house, in our own workroom by a small multinational team of highly skilled dress makers and pattern cutters, many of whom have been with the company for over 20 years.

We encourage harmony and respect amongst individuals to promote good working practices and a healthy working environment.

Our organisation is committed to achieving a working environment which provides equality of opportunity, fairness and freedom for all in our employment from unlawful discrimination on the grounds of gender, marital status, ethnic origin, race, skin tone, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, religion and age.
